About Mary Kay
Mary Kay – who also goes by Mary and MK – is a true friend, a calm, non-anxious presence, a creative and quirky soul. She typically brings her whole eclectic self to the variety of things she does, including her work as an ordained interspiritual / interfaith minister, Life-Cycle Celebrant®/ceremony specialist, spiritual director, and retreat and workshop leader. After growing up Roman Catholic in central Wisconsin, she found Quakers in 1989 and never left. She is a graduate of One Spirit Seminary, the Celebrant Foundation and Institute (now Natural Transitions Institute), the Quaker School of the Spirit’s Spiritual Nurture program and Shalem Institute’s Spiritual Guidance program. She has a master’s degree in Spiritual Formation and Leadership from Spring Arbor University. Her BA is in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She once was a television news producer, then worked in public relations for a variety of places, including the Susan B. Anthony House in Rochester, NY.
She and her husband have been quite nomadic in their many years together, having lived in several places in Wisconsin (including Green Bay – Go Packers!) and New York State. They now happily call Eastern North Carolina home (even though the summers are miserably hot and humid…).
In all that she does, it is her joy and honor to serve BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and military individuals and families.
Mary Kay is a faith-filled Friend. She has led retreats at Powell House for several years and I’ve found them to be well grounded in Spirit. She offers spiritual nurture for the whole person – body, mind and soul. I have left the retreats refreshed and renewed.
